Hi Brandon from the looks of your website you dont need any pointers from me but happy to look at anything you would like to send through. luke@durackarchitects.com
Hi Brandon I guess I just mean a lot of the landscape architects drawings I see are very basic an unemotional. They communicate the design well to other landscape architects or myself but not to the client. The best responses I get from clients are not when I show them plans or sections of buildings but when I show them perspectives they can understand. I havnt seen this done with landscape architects work but perhaps there are better ways to show the design than plans. Even previous work examples of a particular idea gets a better engagement than me showing drawings. Sorry not sure if that helps.
Hi Brandon, These are not really pain points. They’re more fine tuning issues. I push the importance of a landscape architect in almost all my jobs. Its that important to me and the buildings I work on. That said I get a real range of quality in the documentation that I get (same could be said for architects work as well). Clients find it sometimes harder to understand these drawings than the building plans. Anything that brings the landscape design to life. I would like to also see from the Landscape architects I have worked with ideas that might go outside the original brief. Hope that makes sense Brandon Reed, Designer and Landscape Architect.
Thanks SONY PURBA, AIA. Seems to be the way things are moving. Makes sense for the client at least.
Sounds like a great idea John Hrivnak, AIA, MBA, NCARB, LEED AP. In the last two proposals I have sent out I have implemented some level of this packaging along with the LLC / needs and options review and have had positive feedback so will see how we go. I like the idea of charging even for initial site visits.
Thanks Roderick Anderson Im in the process of giving it a go as we speak. But from the initial meeting where I broached the idea of packages and an LCC they seemed keen. So will see how we go.
Thanks Eric Bobrow . As you say it might just be the way in which I articulate the stages. It’s pretty typical to break up stages but perhaps not really seen like this by a client unless clearly outlined.
Thanks for the further input folks. I have thought about the reciprocal arrangement but its another thing thats a bit tricky without a portfolio of my own work as yet. This weeks talk on the premium positioning was encouraging. From my understanding the niche we are looking at is there primarily for a particular marketing campaign and does not necessarily need to underpin the whole business. With that in mind I feel like a can take a bit more of a risk with what that niche might be. Rooftop additions to existing apartment buildings, sub divisions and duplex developments for example.
Thanks Christopher. Good thoughts. I think what that highlights to me is that I need to know a little bit more about the resi market/climate im trying to win clients in. While ive worked in it for a while as an employee trying to earn a living off it is a different story.
Hi String. Thankyou. That makes sense.
